Tablo Demonstrates High Treatment Completion Among Users

A perennial concern of nephrologists who are not familiar with home HD is that patients at home won’t do their treatments. Results of a new trial with the Outset Tablo should ease their minds. The study found that treatment adherence was 95%, with 92% of treatments completing at least 90% of the prescribed time.

A Non-Surgical Option for Vascular Access

Vascular specialists can now use WavelinQ. This new, non-surgical approach uses two thin, flexible, catheters, each with a magnet on the end. One catheter is threaded into an artery. The other goes into a vein. The small needle punctures that are used heal with no stitches and little to no scarring. A burst of radiofrequency between the magnets forms a fistula.

Mendel Schnitzer used to have to drive half an hour to his dialysis hospital, be there for 4-5 hours, and then go home exhausted. Now he is doing 36 hours of nocturnal HD a week using a NxStage System One, and even bringing it along to his family cottage on a lake. “This machine gave me longer life, better freedom, and almost a normal life,” he reports.

Frank Bailey does. The 75-year old wears pajamas under his clothes and heads to his treatments at Royal Jubilee Hospital’s nocturnal in-center HD program three nights a week. “After the four-hour one, I was feeling exhausted, no energy, nothing,” said Bailey. “…Now I can do anything when I come home.” The first program of its kind in Vancouver has 13 patients and a waiting list of 20 more.
