Medicare’s 2025 Physician Fee Schedule
Downside: Medicare implemented a 2.8% cut as of 1/1/2025 affecting physicians, hospitals, suppliers and other providers who bill Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) for Medicare services paid under the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS).
Upside: Medicare now covers dental or oral exams for people on dialysis. Inpatient or outpatient “medically necessary diagnostic and treatment services to eliminate an oral or dental infection when performed before or concurrently with Medicare-covered dialysis services for treating ESRD” are included. This may improve patients’ health and transplant access. Also, Medicare is now provisionally covering telehealth “caregiver training,” which may improve home dialysis access and reduce care partner burden.
