Diagnosed with CKD at age 12, Vanessa had a transplant for 5-1/2 years at 18 and has been on dialysis for 28 years—8 on in-center, then home HD. She talks about her history with CKD, dragging her feet on starting home dialysis, and learning to self-cannulate with help of a patient tech who changed her life by telling her “I believe in you.” She now empowers patients as Fresenius’ Director of Patient Advocacy and Communities.
