MEI Encourages Care Teams to Ask These Questions for CQI
CMS revised the ICH CAHPS survey and removed questions MEI believes are key to quality patient-centered care. Even though these will not be reported to CMS for Dialysis Facility Compare, we recommend still asking “In the last 3 months…”:
“How often did you feel the dialysis center staff really cared about you as a person?”
“Did dialysis center staff keep information about you and your health as private as possible from other patients?”
“Has anyone on the dialysis center staff asked you about how your kidney disease affects other parts of your life?”
“How often did dialysis center staff insert your needles with as little pain as possible?”
“Did dialysis center staff talk to you about what you should eat and drink?”
You can find the survey at https://nrchealth.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ICH-CAHPS-Proposed-Question-Updates-Spring-2026.pdf.
