In-center Nocturnal HD Improves Quality of Life vs. Standard In-center HD
A small prospective cohort study of standard in-center HD patients (n=36) who switched to in-center nocturnal HD compared baseline health-related quality of life to levels 12 months later. Among the 24 who completed the study and permitted follow up, the mental component score increased by 7.1 points, and improvements were seen in several domains.

Left Atrial Remodeling Not Found After 1 Year of Nocturnal HD
While left ventricular mass has been shown to regress with intensive HD, the same does not seem to hold true for the left atrium, nor did the ejection fraction improve, finds a new study of 37 patients switched from conventional HD. Read the abstract.

Remote Monitoring in PD May Catch Problems Early and Reduce Costs
A simulation study using 12 patient profiles has determined that the ability to obtain clinical treatment information from PD could avoid the use of home and ER visits and hospital stays by identifying problems early, saving an estimated $7,088 to $23,364 across Italy, Germany, and the U.S. Read the abstract.
