It’s Black History Month and Disparities Remain in PD and
Home HDThere are still health disparities in kidney disease. Per the
USRDS:
As of 2022 (the most recent year for data), Black people were
twice as likely to develop kidney failure as Hispanic people
and four times as likely as White people.
Just 8.7% of PD patients were Black—vs.
15.2% White.
On home HD, 2.2% were Black and
3.3% were White.
We need to better identify and address reasons for disparities
so everyone has an equal chance to be on a treatment that fits
what matters to them. And we need to ask what matters.
We can do this by using a decision aid like MEI’s free My Kidney Life
