  • Hope, Quality of Life, and Psychoscial Distress in PD

    Are people on PD hopeful? A study from China surveyed 134 people on PD, assessing their level of hope. Working patients with higher income using APD had higher hope scores, and hope correlated significantly with both age and social support. Higher hope scores were linked with better mental well-being and less severe depression.

  • PD vs. Home HD for Severe Infections

    In a Finnish study of 536 patients using home dialysis, the risk of a severe infection (C-reactive protein of 100mg/L or higher) in year 1 of CAPD was 35%, APD was 25% and home HD was 11%. Over a 5-year period, compared to home HD, the hazard ratio of severe infection for APD was 2.2 and for CAPD, 2.8. PD peritonitis accounted for the difference.

  • Urine Output on PD Predicts Solute Removal

    In an observational study of 93 people on CAPD (n=34) or APD (n=59) who still made urine, 24-hour urine collection correlated positively with removal of wastes + residual clearance. There was no significant difference between CAPD and APD.
