Hemodialysis machines effectively cleanse blood of impurities. No matter what brand of hemodialysis machine is used, all are required to have pressure alarms that notify the user if a problem is detected in either the arterial or venous needles. However, the venous pressure alarm is notoriously unreliable. It may fail to alarm, or large amounts of blood may be lost before the machine detects blood loss from a venous needle that partially or completely dislodges. This serious complication of hemodialysis is known as a venous needle dislodgement (VND), and it is important that a VND is detected immediately to prevent hemorrhage.
The Redsense blood loss detector is used as an added layer of protection from a VND. The Redsense alarm is a reliable venous blood loss detector that can be used in any type of hemodialysis and with any type of hemodialysis machine. Redsense uses light and fiber optics to detect blood loss directly from the venous needle insertion site. If blood is detected, it immediately sounds a unique alarm that is loud enough to alert caregivers, and awaken sleeping nocturnal users. Redsense does not interfere with the hemodialysis machine, or any other devices that may be used. Redsense is also the only blood loss alarm that does not introduce electricity near the open venous needle insertion site. Redsense provides peace of mind by silently and continuously monitoring the venous needle access.
